I use a Briggs and Riley carry on that has gone with me on countless business and personal trips
I have the Amazon Basics large hardshell that I have checked about 30 times both international and domestic. It has held up pretty well.
+1 for Amazon Basics. Bought mine in 2019 and have taken hundreds of flights since - still works perfectly fine and hasn’t cracked once. Insane value for $50.
Not sure if I’m reading this right but are you saying the airline broke your suitcase every trip in the same spot??? That’s not normal and I wonder if maybe the airline has faulty equipment? Or there’s something you’re packing that’s making a weak point on that side? This sounds so bizarre to me.
But anyways I bought a hard shell Delsey used off FB and it’s been 4 years and still looks the same as when I got it
Wow that’s incredibly frustrating. I would be livid. Might be worth trying the soft side ones. Realizing now that I rarely check in my hard shell and usually just carry it on. When I was in consulting I checked my bag weekly but it was a soft one and I never had any issues.
I have a hard shell samsonite and also a Swiss air hard shell luggage. Only had these 2yrs so far but they have made it safely. My sister and friend has Away and they seem pretty solid

I've been happy using Away
The Samsonite hard shells that I got from Costco have lasted 9+ years

I have Travel Pro for both and have been pleased with them.
I have Samsonite and away hard shell. The thing I like about the hard shells is that when it rains my stuff stays dry on the tarmac
Thank you for the insight!!
I used several over the years:
-Amazon basic: zipper failed just before a flight back from Australia. Had to tape/tie it shut. Piece of garbage.
-Samsonite Aero spinner: loved this, took it literally around the world multiple times over the course of 5 years. Still worked but was missing chunks of plastic and really scratched up.
-I’m now rocking the 21 inch expandable hardshell from quince. It’s a higher quality, more unique Away bag for 1/2 the price from what’s likely the same factory in China. The wheels, handle, and materials are great, and I love the included compression straps and ability to expand if needed.
I recently got a Thule Aion carryon and I am in love, I’ve owned Tumi, Rimowa, and several others and I feel like for the size vs what I can fit, and the wheels that glide on anything while remaining compact, I’ve finally found “the one” (for me anyway) they also have a very similar model called the subterra2 that is almost identical that I gave as a gift that was well reviewed as well.
