Nothing tests a retail or hospitality team quite like a major holiday rush. The preparation, the pressure, the exhaustion and somehow, the sense of accomplishment when you get through it together. What’s your most memorable experience navigating a peak season, and what did it teach you?

I'll never forget one Christmas Eve when we had like, I think, six callouts. It was me and only 4 other associates running the entire store. The lines were wrapped around the building, it was horrible, but we got it done.

That sounds incredibly tough, especially on Christmas Eve. But it also says a lot about the team that you all pulled together and made it through such a crazy rush. Moments like that really show how much teamwork and resilience matter in retail.

I remember a couple of those horrendous early morning openings on Black Friday. People lined up at the front doors and the stampede when we opened at 5 am was absolutely nuts. I'm glad all that faded out, but at times I look back at it and I have to laugh at how crazy it was. What it taught me was that you can get through the most insane chaos if you don't take things too seriously.

That sounds wild! Black Friday openings were definitely a whole different level of chaos. I like your takeaway though, sometimes the only way to get through those moments is to keep a sense of humor and not take everything too seriously. It’s amazing what a team can handle when everyone just rolls with it.

I service multiple stores and during peak season (the holidays) the inventory will sell out very quickly. I had to work harder behind the scene to put out more inventory at a rapid place. I was so stressed but it taught me that I can work well under and circumstances.

That sounds incredibly intense, but also really rewarding. Peak season can definitely push you to your limits, especially when inventory is moving that fast. It’s great that you were able to step up and keep things moving behind the scenes..moments like that really show how capable we are under pressure!

I received a verbal offer for a VP position at CCB line of business at JPMC in NYC two weeks ago. The recruiter asked for salary expectations but there was no number set. It’s been two weeks since and complete radio silence. I sent an email to a hiring manager a week ago but received no reply. It’s August so people could be on vacation but this is really strange. Has anyone had similar experience?

Starting with our very first IVF cycle this week and kinda nervous 🤞
Nurse says retrieval to happen tentatively around 18th Dec but then transfer can take place in early February too considering genetic testing takes weeks. Is this the norm? Just fearing the team is not unnecessarily delaying things owing to holiday break.

So I had 3 deals scheduled to either close end of May or mid June which were all pushed to end of June/beginning of July. Which is when I have my first vacation planned for over a year (I take 0 time off). My whole family is flying up and we’re renting a cabin near me. What do I do? I’m running one of the deals, semi running the other one and not doing much leading on the other one. Note: I was supposed to not be running any of these. Do I find a back up first or tell the partners first?

How do your firms do payroll? This is like the 5th time in 26 months that paychecks weren’t timely deposited. Allegedly, the boss did everything right and this is something in the payroll company. But his stuff is getting crazy and everyone is out on PTO, I’m kinda like: meet minimum ethical obligations and no more. Once or twice, I understand. But this is becoming regular.

Anyone who got an offer from Accenture consulting able to have them change the home office. Interviewed for DC but now want to stay in NY.

I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I'm looking to make a career switch so I can both create and execute on my strategies. A product management path seems very promising for this.

Does anyone who switched from consulting to product management have any recommendations of h helpful PM books, courses, or programs?
