OH.MY.GOSH. Very, very long story short, it was brought to my attention that one of my employees has a very.."active" OnlyFans account. I'm trying to find a balance between respecting what people's interests are outside of work and how that work might influence our company's image. This is an "R" rated OnlyFans. I really don't know what to do. She's such a sweetheart but if word gets out that I knew and I kept her on the team or didn't reprimand her, I could lose my job. Any suggestions?

Let people live their own lives. It’s not affecting her work

likeupliftingsmarthelpful

Agreed. If it does not reflect on their work or interfere with their performance, and as long as it does not endanger the organization legally, it's their own business. If a person goes hunting on the weekends and kills animals for food, does it merit reporting just in case someone is offended or a PETA supporter?

The fact that you are concerned about how YOU will be impacted by her personal decision, and that YOU are now afraid that YOU can't treat her fairly without casting some sort of judgement, is troubling.

I have to agree with you that you do have a toxic workplace with very toxic leadership. And guess what? You are HER 'leader'.

If you truly want to be honest with her, send her THIS THREAD so that SHE can go to HR and ask to move to a different team/department. She deserves better than working under 'toxic leadership'.

@Author if keeping my job requires me potentially firing someone for something they do in their personal time to make extra money which doesn’t conflict with company products and isn’t anything illegal, then I’d find a new job.

This thread is so spicy 🔥🍿

likefunny

I love it 🍿

like

What she's done is not work related, and it's also not impacting her ability to perform her work, so technically you can't reprimand her.

What she chooses to do on her own time is her business, and it's also not a crime.

This feels like fishbowl clickbait.

I would think that if the OP posted then disappeared, but she has been all over these threads defending herself. If it's a troll, they're an EPIC troll.

@OP, everyone on this thread is living in a delusional land where they really believe because of their progressive woke social media posts, they don't have a hint of judgement in their bones. Don't trip over them, they're living on their high hypocritical horse.

likefunny

Let's turn this around somewhat. Would it be fair for a progressive-leaning non-profit to reprimand an employee for visibly participating in a conservative political rally? This might also raise concerns with clients, donors etc.

The irony is that you may be, at least partially, responsible for your employee having a OF account.
Who knows, maybe if you were paying your employees better they would not have to sell their image on the Internet?

Why would you lose your job? How does this affect her performance in the role she's been hired for? Depending on your state, it would be illegal to fire her based on this alone. Let her live.

like

Does the company have a policy on a person’s online presence/social media/etc?

like

@Author unless she’s covered in your company logo in every photo/video then she’s not mis-representing your company.

like

Refer to your company handbook and policy. Has she breach any of those rules, and if so, what’s the guidelines to address that.

Your wording of they are “your employee” or “reprimand” sounds like they work for you but you are just a manager and they are simply your colleagues. You can’t just reprimand someone by dodging pay or taking a point off their performance rating or send them to a corner to reflect on what they did because they are doing something you view as having negative perception.

You can either discuss the matter professionally with the person and provide advice or consult with HR (anonymously if you want) on course of action.

likehelpful

What "way" do things not work? You don't have documented rules or policies?

like

Honestly, I'm not sure how this is of anyone's business. I agree with the comments I read here: there is no action to be taken because of that. 1) If someone higher up finds out and decides to fire her, give them a heads up that a lawsuit will come next;
2) If people are talking about it during working hours, they are the ones to be reprimand.

I would not even bring it up to her as I only see downsides to it. it's only gonna be awkward, uncomfortable situation for both.

like

Lawsuit...really? Sure...the OnlyFans girl might get some non profit to pay for her legals...but OP, you would most likely be SOL. And yeah, your job will be on the line if you take a contrarian stance to your organization's policy.

So...play a "hero"...or do your job. Talk to HR. Unless long and expensive lawsuits are your bag...

Why on earth would you reprimand her? Is she mentioning Google on her OF page? Is she representing Google there? If not ... Nobody's business.

like

Where does this "concern" for activities unrelated to work start and stop? Should you also monitor the opinions they express on social media? the movies they watch? who they date? the church they attend? the books they read? Should they all align to the opinions of the company and/or it's "leaders"?

like

Does your company have a “morality” clause (where they define “morality”) and you are required to agree to it as a condition of employment?

Is there any company policy to dictate what this person does on their own time that is not related to the work they do? Is her body the “intellectual property” of her employer?

If the answer is no, then respectfully butt out of their personal life. It’s none of your, or your higher ups’ business.

And if your company terminates you for respecting a woman’s autonomy and personal affairs, lawyer up because they just gave you a pension of sorts.

like

Seriously people ..lawyers are not the answer unless you are willing to hire one for the OP. It is not a slam dunk case.

There is no choice but to at least involve HR, so at least you can share responsobility of the decision if the higher ups decide the situation is unacceptable.

Keep in mind OP, you will get canned for generic restructuring or "performance" issues. They do not owe you a "why".

I do not know what the risk of staying quiet or ignoring the issue is...I can only assure you that it is worth considering your course of actions.

And it could work both ways. You may decide to fire this person, but the higher ups or HR may object to OnlyFans being the only reason.

It's difficult, but you have to socialize the issue and respect the feedback you get from the stakeholders that matter...

If what she is doing isn't illegal, is on her personal time, and isn't it affecting her work why in the world should you or anyone else care?

like

You don't know what to do? You do nothing. It doesn't fit with your morals? Too bad. My thinking is that we (i) put $200k+ down and get a 5/1 ARM. (ii) put everything we save moving forward toward paying down the principal (after maximizing retirement accounts). Should be able to do $100k per year. (iii) If rates go down below 4.5ish % for 15 year fixed, refinance and stop aggressive payment. Thoughts on this approach?
