One of the summers at my office dresses very unprofessionally, and I was talking about it with my friend/coworker. I didn’t realize that the summer was right behind us. Should I apologize even though I meant everything I said?

Yeah, I don't know how this summer is dressing but unless they are coming in a bikini, I don't really view it as any of your business to talk about. We have a summer who comes in in pretty high-end dresses and tops that show her midriff. I don't think it's a big deal. It's 2023.

I've worn seersucker suits, pink suits, a Hanukkah suit, and a baseball jersey to the office.

Update: if they are in fact wearing sweatpants and Jordans to work, they are unsavable. That's definitely worth a no offer. Geez

Well…once after a deposition I immediately changed into sweatpants and a hoodie. I felt like I’d earned it, and I wasn’t an SA at the time. But God, hard clothes are exhausting to wear so I wish this were a world where your SA’s clothing selection would be acceptable. Still, at this stage, it’s really not a wise move by the SA. They’re sort of projecting an indifference to normative clothing choices, which means they might disregard other norms (ways to behave around client to encourage trust, for example),

But you discussing it at the office also lacks situational awareness & shows you may not be playing the game as shrewdly as you could. Probably a good idea to apologize/follow up & see if you can play it as “I’m just jealous & learning to be better socialized/less mean, my bad.” Even though I think you’re right, that’s the move & a good lesson that being right isn’t enough in our profession. It’s like 30% right/reason, 30% emotion/feeling, and the other 40% I dunno, haven’t figured it out yet.

What area of law are you in? You could apologize in a way to let them know you made the mistake of meddling. Who knows, that summer could work their way up one day and be your boss or a beast in the court and will always remember your comments.

Nope

And now you feel bad because you can’t save face. Mind your own business.

If this were me, I’d tell the recruiting head what happened and let her decide what I should do. I’m fairly close with our recruiter so it wouldn’t be a big issue. Odds are that best thing is to just move on and play dumb.

I wear a beanie and jeans to the office as long as I don't have any client facing activities and couldn't give any fucks what any other associates think of it, nor what they wear themselves. The way I see it, I've earned it by doing good work and have shown good judgment such that the partners don't feel any need to comment on it, assuming I maintain good judgment - i.e. don't wear that shit around clients. If anything, I think it's cool to be able to get away with being extremely comfortable at work while others might not be since they choose not to push their boundaries (or maybe they just don't mind wearing more formal clothing). If any other associate gave me shit for it, I'd just shrug my shoulders and proceed with my life with the peace of mind that I get to be the comfortable one.

Moral being, why would you look down on how someone dresses if it's working for them?

No way to fix it. The damage is done. I hope it was a white male for your sake.

Hi guys 👋🏻
So I joined IBM 5 months back, was on bench for this long and got project just a week back.

My PSP and People Manager have been kind of lenient, cooperative and kind to me because I was never told I will be put in PIP, I have to enter project not matching my skillset etc etc.

Is it wise to appreciate both of them via blue points for their support?

I just got a mail saying I have 200 bluepoints to send out appreciations if I feel like.

Secondly, when my team members see me in cafeteria we expect they'll sit with us but people here are being rude they directly go and sit with their friends they don't call you to join. ( atleast they could have said they are accompanied)

Let’s talk suits. Do you have any thoughts on a junior associate wearing an expensive suit or a suit that departs from the norm (eg subtle pinstripe navy suit, or a suit with larger lapels/peaked lapels?). I’m thinking about upgrading my suit, but I don’t want to piss anyone off with a suit screaming the message “I’ve made it” when I’m just a junior associate. Perhaps it’s just all in my head and no one actually cares.
