I’ve seen the coke binges slow a bit due to the fentanyl situation but definitely saw it more in 2011-2015. I also may just be old now.

So you must do coke? I’ve never heard anyone call it a habit. “Where’s John? Well, he had to go to his outpatient therapy for his coke habit. I told him to slow down, but some habits we can’t shake.” Addiction, you are working with lawyers that have addiction issues.
Also, it’s everyday. Stop lying on me. I drink in my office everyday. Not nearly, don’t undercut my streak like that. It’s a habit I’m proud of.

Contra posting on here, coke habits arent very common. Otherwise seems right.

Most Alcoholic partners are probably hiding alone at home or some third location where nobody can see them

To the folks who think that coke is not common in biglaw: your colleagues either do not trust you or think that you are boring. That's why you have no idea.

I think this is really dependent on firm, mostly true in NYC/LA, and I suspect adderal/modafinil abuse is more prevalent bc it’s way better for working than coke.
I have also known two biglaw associates with serious heroin problems, one who died and one who merely derailed his career and life. Both were outwardly normal and I have no idea how they functioned.

Is this white & case by any chance lmao

A lot of people do coke in NY but it’s super weird to talk about it at work with non - close friends
There was that first year associate at Akin Gump who OD’d on coke laced with fentanyl super sad :-(
Sounds like what happened at Dechert a few years ago. Same thing I think.
I’ve been at two CA V100 firms, and coke has been very rare (I’ve never seen it). More common (but still definitely not the norm) are people who do mushrooms or molly a few times a year on a camping trip or festival or something like that.
People don’t do coke in LA
Coach
I never got a good read on how common coke is New York. It came up more than I expected it to, and with people I didn’t expect, but I couldn’t tell whether that was the tip of the iceberg or a few outliers.

Maybe it’s your practice area or city but I haven’t encountered this type of behavior in any remarkable way.

They are all like this. I was just talking to a friend of mine and we concluded that big law is full of broken people and the culture is broken. I’m in house now and the culture is so different that it makes me paranoid something is wrong. Does that mean you should leave? No, it means you should know what it’s about and learn to deal with it until you’re ready to leave.
My firm is not like this at all, at least in my practice group. Maybe the M&A groups or something transactional are different, but I’ve had some pretty boozy late nights and never seen anyone do or even ask about something other than edibles.
Not normal and I have been at 3 big law firms.
