Besides a professional "WTF", Whay else can I really do? It's definitely not performance related. Should I just stop killing myself and working 60hr weeks and start looking for a new role?
How did your discussion go OP? What were you able to discuss with your manager?
I noticed in a previous comment you said you don't want to "fight". The situation is that in this capitalist economy, you do need to be your own cheerleader. The company has a finite budget to promote certain amount of people. So it means that you might have to do additional leg work of following up and keep yourself and your boss on course to meet the goals and milestones set in place. It sometimes means putting up a "fight" to get on that promotion list.
For example in hindsight what I would have done is still tell my manager that I would want a performance review regardless of promotion so I could get in writing my progress. This is because I would have wanted my successes and contributions in writing as it means it's been acknowledged. Then let's say I didn't make it on the first round of promotions, I can refer back to my files and show my case why I should be reviewed for a raise in the next round.
Don't quit OP, manage up to your boss and know what you're dealing with. You can decide after if you like or don't like their response and plan out how much energy you want to put into this moving forward.
I was able to chat with him yesterday. He said these promotions were from 2019 and the leadership team wanted to push them through as a sign that the company is doing ok and people don’t have to worry about their jobs. He told me he forgot to tell me and didn’t think about how I might react to that news. He said he’ll do his best to vouch for me once raises are lifted. I have my Q2 review scheduled for next week. Still doesn’t feel great but I’ll continue to be a pain in the butt about it.
