People who have worked in both big four and MBB in strategy, what are the main differences that drives more value in MBB? Is it content? Are partners just better at selling the work?

Biggest differences are branding and the average caliber of talent. MBB is much higher pressure than Big4 so you are always on your toes and try to deliver 200% because of your insecurity. Another difference is that you feel more like a true partner to your client instead of doing what they ask you to do. And clients pay for that...

They get best people and then quality of talent trickles down as M1 says. Also they’re the OG consulting firms like big 4 started as audit/tax firms, so they have the expertise/legacy to make their fees more for the work they do. Additionally, they’ve focused primarily on strategy work till recently and that’s the highest in fees, so generally make more money on those and have less people so they work more but get better perks. Go to market for MBB is different too, most big 4 pitch we do everything whereas MBB use to and to extent is still predominantly known for strategy work

First day of 30mg vyvanse today. Had a rush of energy and hyperfocus (too much so) about 2-4 hours in, but had a complete crash 5hrs after taking the pill (just a wave of fatigue, felt very good after a quick 15min nap actually) and not sure if it had any effect after. Is this normal? Should I stick it out for a few days or is this a big sign that I’m not on the right meds/dose? Nervous to keep trialling this during the workday since a midday crash is not ideal. Do you think partners in law firms have too much power and autonomy? eg. the power to refuse leave, to do your annual appraisal, to make you work while on leave, to overwork people, to manage the team on their on terms etc. Is this power bad or good for the firm and the team overall?

Related question - Do you think the HR in law firms are just there for show since the partners have a lot of power and autonomy?

Joining a big firm next week as fully remote lateral and flying out to home office for orientation. The schedule has me in office until 4:15. I’ve already been told I won’t have any actual work. Depending on how many people are there and how it feels, I was planning to stay an hour extra but should I hang around the office until later? First time visiting this city so it’d be great to take in some sights too (although that’s not a priority of course).
