I work in a small PI firm in Texas (6 attorneys). We do not get a lot of referrals from doctors. Also, there is the issue of barratry issues. when it comes to doctor referrals that need to be considered.
Networking with doctors is great in our industry for reasons other than referrals. If you have a good rapport with a doctor they will be more likely to waive initial consultation fees, waive medical record/affidavit fees, and waive fees for surgical cost estimates. This can save your firm and your clients significantly in case expenses.
Also, through networking, you can get steeper reductions in medical bills got your clients. These are all things to consider. So networking is not a wate when you look at the big picture.
