Great question and I hope there are a lot of responses. I don’t fill out the demographic information because I am not interested in helping a prospective employer demonstrate that they’re diverse and inclusive, at least to the extent that prospective employees does that. I’ve worked hard enough and done enough over my career that I deserve to be taken seriously and not used to pad someone’s statistics. Providing the demographic information does not benefit me - so no I don’t do it. It becomes a bit moot when they see my profile picture on LinkedIn, but I don’t want to help them pad their stats.
i don't unless I get an offer
@OP,
I’m also a black male and in Biglaw. I do it all the time and have always done it when filling out an application. I see no problem with it and would not want to be at a firm that saw it as a problem, personally. Furthermore, I even include my law school affinity group on my resume as well.
Regarding the upcoming administration, clients are diverse as well and want diverse associates and have little say on what private firms do.
Who cares. Shoot for the stars
