Going to bed earlier. Putting my phone on the other side of the room so I have to get on my feet when my alarm goes off. Writing notes to myself not to be a lazy f*ck and get up and placing them where I see it in the morning. When I get up. I walk straight outside my house and get sunlight. It helps
THIS
Recommend trying this routine for the next 3 days:
- evening workout, right after work or after dinner, to burn off the physical energy you didn't use at your desk
- put your phone in a drawer at 10pm, and fill the time with books, a bath, time with your SO (😉) -- no screens. keep a notebook nearby where you can write down any to-do or reminder items that pop into your head.
- you'll naturally want to go to bed pretty soon, and over time can move the no-phone time up. transfer info from the notebook to the phone first thing (also helps you prioritize your day).
- after basic getting ready (brush teeth, shower, get dressed, SPF), GO OUTSIDE and sit in or near the sun. I like to bring tea with me and just look at my neighborhood or put on a meditation. 10 minutes of direct sunlight positively affects focus and energy for the rest of the day.
Yes you'll have to set expectations, over time, that you can't be reached after a certain time. (:
This is very relatable
This was me and my fiancee after WFH policy. We would literally wake up 5 mins before the first meeting, which is generally at 9. And still feel tired and groggy af. We thought "great! Now we have more time for shows, food etc." Before that, we used to wake up at 6:30 to get ready for long ass commute, so we just adopted that schedule to change our lifestyles but with minor tweaks:
6:30 wake up and head to gym (walk outside/go to nearby cafes on rest days)
8:30 be home, make breakfast
9:00 start work with freshly made coffee
12-12:45 nap time (mandatory unless meeting)
1-2 lunch at desk
5 call it a day
Until 10 chores, tv, food etc. Ocassionally we go out for food but nothing past 10:45
11 go to sleep. Rinse & repeat no matter the weekend or weekdays. Only exception is if you travelling or with friends.
Don't eat late, don't watch tv late. Absolutely no phone near your bed lmfao. Invest in quality supplements like melatonin, mg and a fucking old school alarm clock that wakes you up like no-snooze mofo.
Also pro-tip: if you are used to sleeping late like I was (3-4am on average due to binge watching, gaming etc.) and want to start sleeping early, that thing is hard and boring. Get a local library card and bring in those physical books. None of that kobo/kindle shit. I shit you not, local libraries are underrated af.
Agree with everything you said but the gem here was no snooze mofo 😂
It starts with bedtime. Try to not be on your phone directly before bed, and set a good routine to get deep sleep. Also start small. Maybe wake up 15 min earlier, then 30, then 1 hr. Sunlight and fresh air also does wonders.
Are you just out of routine and motivation or have you checked also health?
I had similar problems turns out was health related..
Just get old, as I rolled into my 40's I started waking up earlier and earlier, I rarely need an alarm anymore, and I am at the gym by 6am most days.
When I first started working from home a decade or so ago, I too got lazy, and when went so far as to start drinking a bit more, and during the day. I eventually realized that their mentality was not serving me professionally, so I very intentionally got into a routine, and began waking up early enough to either get to the gym before work, or be fully engaged when I sat down at my desk. I began to give my job the same respect that I was giving in the office, with a little bit of gratitude for the new found flexibility. Up to that point I was literally abusing that flexibility, and not respecting the role that was getting my bills paid.
WFH is not an excuse to be lazy, you need to embrace that and stop short-changing your employer.
OMG, yes IBM 1. It was a total shocker as I was notoriously a late night person and would sleep through morning alarms often in my 20s. Now in my 40s I’m awake 6:15am every day, no alarm needed.
