Retirement savings Q: I left PwC and my new employer has a 401k program but does not match. Should I consider transferring my PwC 401k to an external IRA or other retirement savings option since my company doesn’t match? Appreciate any words of advice / resources on this topic that you’ve found helpful.

I don’t see why the match is relevant to rolling over or not. I’d either keep it in pwc’s plan or if new employers plan is similar than roll it over.

Usually there are some fees that can be avoided by rolling over, but we’re probably talking 50-100 a year so not a huge deal if the options/fund fees are better in the pwc plan.

Yes I meant matching my contributions from this point forward, not the rollover chunk of money. Agree re: simplification. Thanks for your help!

If you ever think you’d need to take a loan from your retirement account (buy a home, etc.) you will want to roll your current 401(k) over to your new firm’s 401(k) plan as you cannot take a loan from a rollover IRA account.

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage.

I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest.

Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?

Advice and/or consolation anyone? My wife and I (both above average health 30year olds) were trying for 11 months before getting pregnant and then had a week 5 early miscarriage a few months back. If the stress and surprise of just how difficult it apparently is to get pregnant wasn’t enough, the miscarriage put us over. We got back to it and have been trying for the last 2 months again, still no luck. We’re freaking out… all we want is a family. Any similar stories? Advice? 😢

Hi guys. How mych does it usually take to get an offer after last interview in EY? My external recruiter called me and said that he received a very good feedback on me and they are interested but he is not sure about time frame as its a Christmas time and they need to approve with commercial etc so he is not sure that they will proceed before Christmas. Is it normal? Or it’s mean they have some doubts?

Intl Tax folks, how long did it take before you were confident in your role? I've worked for the past 3 years in a practice that is heavily consulting based (inbound and outbound structuring) and I feel like I'm only just starting to understand the foundational concepts (where I can explain them clearly to clients) and offering a shred of value. Then I'll have calls where partners discuss complex tax, legal, treasury and other related concepts that all go over my head.. it becomes overwhelming

I like my current job, company and public accounting. I know I am being underpaid at $70k as a senior tax associate with 2-3 years of experience as I have talked with my local peers as well as local recruiters. Also, I know outside hires to my company get paid about $5-$10k higher than me, but they don’t get a raise the following year. My question is what is everyone’s experience with company hopping to get a pay bump within public accounting?
