Director at PwC is equivalent to senior manager at EY. It’s the level going up for partner, not a non-equity partner position.
Edit: Just saw this is for advisory. The above is how it works for Tax
PwC changed their policy. Director is now above sr manager, a step below partner and neither director or md are equity
Thanks everyone!
No ED and Director are not the same. Director is a heavy senior manager. An ED in EY has to go through a similar admissions process as a partner with slightly different skillsets as an admissions criteria and reviewed by the board at EY. Also first 5 years of pay for an ED is commensurate to first five years as a partner. After year 5, partner comp takes off based on sales and book of business. ED is generally not a high sales position so the comp will never be the same as a high performing partner.
Also ED is a destination goal unless you come in as an ED with a path to partner or principal. Depending on service line, Director at PwC is generally not a destination.
