Hi fishers! I have offer and signed contract with Deloitte UK and my start day is in the beginning of April. I need skilled worker visa, and we haven’t applied yet for that. Screening and onboarding is in progress. Immigration team doesn’t reply since reached me out 1st time. How much time does it usually needed to go through the whole process? How many days take for visa to be approved since application?Deloitte

If you go look at h1b data many of them are getting paid great as it is. I get the basic intention is to make h1b workers appear more costly to hire than a US citizen, but the issue is regardless of cost these people are slaves to their temporary worker status which makes them "more productive" (read: more scared) to try and move jobs, push back on bad working conditions, and generally participate in a free and open job market. This is well paid indentured servitude. It's why the billionaires love it. Brain drain with chains.
As it should be by definition.
In reality, these firms will simply invest in India. As they have accelerated since this admin took over.
Another reality is that same companies are firing people like its Christmas while the same president put them on White House advisory.
H1B is a severely flawed program and it is abused like crazy. But it is also a very easy and safe target for this admin to make noise , while the ground realities remain unchanged. Because H1B worker at McKinsey and Google are somehow paid lower compared to law abiding red blooded American . Point being, it’s an American tradition to blame everything on immigrants and poor people. I hope people get a bit more smart in mid terms
Solid take. Dems will definitely fix it with their open borders and amnesty policies.
Honestly not a bad idea although it’s mostly theatrics. Most people on visa are fairly highly paid. It’s the random cases of someone making 70k that cause the uproar
But are they retaining the $100k price to get the visa?
I hate Trump and conservatives, but this is a good idea. Ever since they increased the fee for h1-B, I have noticed they have been willing to take jobs for 30 to 40% less than their US counterparts.
Prior to the 100k fee, they basically used to take the same pay. Something like this could help.
People with immigrant parents - what’s your take on this?
We had a H-1B engineer at a previous job. The owners were underpaying him and when it came time to renew the visa, the government told the company they needed to pay the engineer more. So naturally they fired him because they weren't about to do that. Glad I left that company
