This is your manager, call me NOW.
good for you, consider this a reward for all the weekend work
How are they not checking in on your progress. Or are you only showing them snippets and pretending you aren’t done
Couple things: (1) I’m the only member of the team who really understands the model software. People can look but they won’t necessarily be able to ask anything meaningful so I think they refrain and (2) yes I plan to go into meetings with small updates/ snippets pretending I’ve made incremental progress each time.
I’ve been doing this for 2 years. After a while it’s not as great as you think. Now I want to roll off but they won’t let me.

Yup. I would just do a little extra to help ease your conscience and make you look good. Just make sure the model is really well polished and gets adequate review (maybe in week 3)
That week 3 can be the revisit point where an "oh crap this is all wrong" can happen.
That awk moment when someone reading this is from your team and starts to question what is happening
Enjoy your free pass and use the time to complete stakeholder reviews and get their buy-in. Their buy-in is the most important outcome, rather than the model itself.
I always make it seem like I’m doing a heavy lift, makes up for the insane hours that I never get paid for and that’s how I clear my conscience.
If no one else can do the core modeling component and they budgeted it at a premium, you should reap the rewards of that. It’s actually a win win for everyone except the client. Better hope no one audits your time spent on working though.

Haha mother fucking sandbagger!
I haven’t been in a position to do this at my current role, but I completed the analysis for my computational dissertation in a single weekend and dragged that baby on for 3 years while I drank a lot w my friends and prepared for an industry transition. But they only paid me 25K so I don’t feel too guilty 😂
But is the model any good? Has the client interrogated it? Because if you sit on it and it is a shit model...
This is that part where if it is predictive or it has some contribution or classification that you can compare to a reference point you'd do better to make sure it is that awesome...
And if you have - cheers mate! That's the holy grail - the 'no corrections, have a good weekend.'

It sounds like you're just efficient and deserve a promo
I might be the only one here, but for me this is equal to theft.
SM2, the difference is transparency. Underscoped work is transparent to all parties. Overscoped work should be as well.
