That’s a third of your base salary. You’ll be fine.
Obviously. You’ll still be ok
Doable but it’s going to be tight. Do you have any other monthly debts?
Not really!
Are you open to sharing an apt? That may be a more affordable option. Lots of people looking for roommates in LA. Or a large studio may be more doable. The older smaller buildings definitely have lower rents. Lower your expectations. It’s LA😂
I was sharing an apartment when I was making that much. Then got an apartment that is half that and still half of that. It sounds like your mind is set. I guess the real question is where are you coming from?
Depends where in LA you want to be? There are some nice 1bd1ba units with washer/dryer in west LA for 2-2.3k
There were a couple in palms area across culver city downtown last time I checked
86k base here. Pay $2500 for rent, and I would say I’m comfortable. Half of my paycheck goes to rent every month basically. I don’t get to save much as a result. I think I’m going to downgrade to something around 2k so I can save some!
I know 🥲 Just how my company is unfortunately. Will be looking for a company that values my skills more soon!
You should get an idea of how often/how much rent increases are. I’d rather start closer 2k, knowing rent will rise, than start at the upper limit and just see it go higher.
I moved here for a $100k job, and grabbed an older apartment on the Westside for $1,875. It is rent-stabilized because of the age of the building (I didn't know this when I moved in), and have now been here 4.5 years and the rent only went up 4% this year. I am making $150k now, and plan on staying here until I can hopefully afford a condo (pipe dream, but a dream nonetheless).
I make 430k and I don’t even spend that much…that’s an absurd amount for your income
It’s 1/3rd your net…what good would gross do?
You’ll be fine if you don’t have other huge spending items, imo
If you have no debt you'll be ok. If you have student loans or credit card debt, it's going to likely be too tight.
I had a roommate in a 2 bed and 2 bath till I was 30 in an older building on the westside. No in-unit washer dryer. Paid about $1k/month each. Saved enough and bought my own condo after.
There are studios in Santa Monica and Culver City that are 500 sqft for 17-1800 that I’d rent before spending 2500/month if I were you
Are you looking for a roommate? I’m 27F and trying to move to LA in May. I wish I could get a 1bed but for the space and slightly lower cost I think a 2 bed makes more sense for me.
