If you are filling out an application in the first place, and do not have a personal contact on the inside of the organization to advise you or help you, nothing you put or don’t put in the application is going to change anything; you are simply responding to a cattle call. Your answers are being generically aggregated for tallying purposes after the fact, that’s all.
SAMP1, why would you go and say that? Why do you have to turn it into this, “I don’t feel bad for you, white male. You’re a white man, and you deserve a little being crapped on… because you’re white.” You’re generalizing, and it’s just as racist as what you might’ve experienced. You don’t know anything about my journey. My disability. My religion. My orientation. You’re generalizing. And I’m simply asking a question to the community about applying.
If you don’t have something constructive to say, you’re being a troll.
What’s the point of fighting for equality if all you really want is to see the current majority knocked down beneath. That’s not equality for all.
My post is asking a genuine question to the community.
I really appreciated EM1 sharing that he feels the same as a black male. That’s enlightening. That’s common ground. Thats a conversation worth taking further. And your comment is taking it somewhere it absolutely doesn’t need to go, and that’s in no way constructive.

Not really, but I don’t know if it has anything to do with anything. I’ve gotten some interviews, but I’ve never gotten a job from applying online.
It’s going to depend WHERE on the application they ask.
That section at the end - the one that looks like an IRS form - is for companies that contract with the government. It’s collecting (anonymized) statistics about who’s applying with the company. HR is not able to link that directly to any particular applicant.
That being said, you should not disclose anything you are not comfortable sharing.
I’ve never been able to see that info, no matter where it was positioned in the application.
I’ve always wondered this as well! I generally do identify because I figure if they are screening for a particular minority to make a diversity quota or something, they’re gonna see that I am or am not what they’re looking for pretty quickly anyway.
I’ve never been hired through a random online application but have gotten interviews.
In 2025, white male is back! Will get you in all the time.
