Sometimes my job is hectic and the phone doesn't stop, but other times it can be really slow. For instance, yesterday I had only 5 calls in 3 hours. What do you guys do to pass the time when work is slow? What's the minimum number of client calls in your day-to-day?

My team is pretty open to us using that downtime however we want. So I bring books, or work on things online. Are you allowed to do personal stuff while you're not on calls? If you're unsure, you should talk to your manager

I bring a book or crossword puzzle books to do. We are not allowed to browse the internet or anything so.

Unfortunately, I don’t think my supervisor would be okay with my just whipping out a book and reading, lol. How do you get away with it?

When work is slow, I like to read books, listen to music, or chat with my co-workers. On an average day, I take about 15-20 client calls. Yesterday was one of the slowest days I've had in a while, with only 5 calls in 3 hours.

I look for free online training courses I could do to expand my skill set a bit. Also, I always keep a work-related book handy (generally something about how to give good customer service) so that if all else failed I could at least look like I was reading for work. Sounds dull as anything, but in the long run, it did actually do me good and helped me get a better job.

It would probably depend on how lenient or strict your workplace is. I WFH now so if the phone isn’t ringing, I can do things around my apartment - clean, prep dinner, etc. And when the phone rings, I stop and do what I’m being paid to do. That being said, before my company went to WFH and we were in the office, if the phones were slow, we were all watching YouTube or listening to podcasts or just small talk with each other.

Doesn’t have to be high-paying, as long as it can support my life (single) and long-term medical cost. Thanks in advance.

Hi, just wondering how the staffing situation has been in strategy consulting in general? My sibling started a job in strategy in Silicon Valley 2 months ago after MBA. She has been on the bench for 2 months and was informed that there has been a shortage of jobs (within the job) and the amount of people on the bench is getting high. She has been under a lot of stress although she had many great networking calls with people. I wanted to help but can't identify what she can improve on.
