Hi fellow creatives! I’m looking for any and all kinds of creative people to participate in a research study!
www.creativitystudy.com
I’m a creativity researcher working on my dissertation on the psychology & neuroscience of creativity. I’m interested in understanding how different types of creative careers, side hustles, and artistic outlets relate to our emotions, mental health, & well-being. Ultimately to help build awareness, resources, & improve the lives of creative people.

Why would you enter into a low margin industry at a time of economic uncertainty and talent shortages? Seems risky.
Starting an agency is brutal right now unless you have a client from day 1 and some klout in the industry.
If you dont have either of those working in your favor I’d stay in-house.
Yes starting your agency: you need money (investment), partners, clients, and there will be absolutely no WLB. It’s exhilarating to build your name out there but the trade off is copper handcuffs for years, but with a slight chance of having it lead to a chest of diamonds one day if you sell it to a holding company. (To continue the analogies ha)
If you have a track record of having grit/resilience, some talent, are sociable (you’ll need to ask a lot of favors so you better be likable), and are naturally a workaholic, that’s a great path for you. Those are the common traits of anyone I know who’s started—and maintained—a venture.
If not, stay in house and have a side hustle to test the waters, and see where that leads you
👆 IBM and A&LCC1 are 100% correct.
Assuming you clock out at 5 or 6pm, if you’re looking for extra $$$ then simply use your free time to start freelancing on the side.
A long term relationship may develop down the road where you can launch your own shop. Either way you won’t be jeopardizing your current income. Good luck.
If you have the itch you have the itch! You are a CD? You can go “back” to freelance if it doesn’t work out. I see “risk” as working for a company who can — and will — fire you without blinking. Bet on yourself, tighten your belt and freaking go!!! Good luck!!!
Thank you everyone for the sanity check! 🙏
I wouldn't start an agency unless its an agency of 1!
