Yes. Soft skills are a must, but also hard skills. IMO the most effective leaders are the ones that have soft skills but also have been there and done that.
Being in consulting for many years Ive seen way too many consultants trying to lead based on soft skills alone, very often with lacklustre results.

Competency plus soft skills is a potent combination. Competency alone is powerful but can drive others away, and soft skills alone can work to bring a team together but doesn’t tends to result in longer term effectivity.
You need both.
