I am WAY more productive at home than in the office with several to a lot of people around. Too many sensory things to be annoyed by, distractions, and I'm still that little girl who was reprimanded on her report card for being too social during school hours (It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me).
That said I am more productive with 1-2 people in the room than totally by myself. Even if we are not collaborating on the same thing. It's that body double effect.
Home. The office is a suck on my attention - ppl popping in and out, let’s grab a coffee, can you look at this?, everyone is getting dinner etc. I don’t have those at home and can attempt to focus more at home
YES!!! There are sooooo many people dropping by throughout the day that it takes forever for me to get focused again and then another person pops in. Drives me nuts.
I’m more productive at office. At home I get distracted a lot.
I am way more productive at home and have the data to prove it!
My billable hours and overall productivity shot up when we first went remote in 2020 since I no longer had annoying coworkers distracting me and wasting time with a million “just 2 minutes of your time” each day. I was stagnating in my career and struggling to keep up with an insane ad agency workload on top of a 1.5-hour commute each way. While WFH, I was promoted twice with significant raises every 6 months along the way.
I also have chronic health issues that have always made my life difficult and have gotten a lot worse in the past year or so. I would have to seek disability if I were forced to go back to the office regularly. It’s easier to stay on my game on projects and during client calls when I can be wrapped in a large heating pad and fluffy blanket below my camera instead of having to run to the bathroom to cry/vomit from the pain.
Rising Star
I’d say about the same but have different strengths. I’m better able teach skills in person and pretty terrible in a virtual setting. When I need to collaborate or have have boring tasks, I’m better at the office. Deep thinking projects, when home alone, I’m much more productive at home. If I have home things weighing on my mind that I can bounce between making progress there and on work projects, I’m better off at home.
Way more productive at the office for me. I have toddlers at home and find it incredibly hard to focus when I can hear them. I can’t just grab a quick coffee or snack from the kitchen- it’s always a 45 minute detour.
I feel that I am way more productive. When I am around other people I tend to spend most my time gabbing instead of actually working. When I am at home there is nobody to talk to so I get way more work done.
Way more productive at home - better lighting / overall office set up and fewer distractions. Plus generally WFH results in my getting an extra hour of sleep which is huge.
More productive at home. At home I can control the environment and distractions. While the office has the benefit of face time - home provided way more output.
I'm horrendously unproductive at home. Having a time bound routine of having to catch a train to the office gives me the rigidity and structure I need. I just can't get into a "work" mindset when my commute is from my bed to my desk. The minute I was allowed back in the office, I opted for 5 days a week, and it made SUCH a difference not only for my productivity but my overall mental health too!
Office is way too distracting.
