I may go against the grain here and say a PMO role as a new analyst could prove to be very helpful. With PMO, you can get exposure to the full breadth of the project, not just a small piece which can be very enlightening especially if you’re new. All in all, PMO becomes what you make it, so even if it appears mundane, if you take the role and run with it, you can really set yourself up for success in the future as if you do well it can lead to high exposure. Just my two cents.
Someone who sets themselves apart in a ditch digging role is much more impressive to me than someone who performs as expected in an “interesting” role.
Avoid avoid avoid. You’re the project’s event planner / secretary / bitch. If you’re good at it, you’ll be pigeon-holed faster than you can type your TFS’ name into Skype. Usually (but not always) staffed by not-nice people who like to backstab and gossip.

I learned a lot while in a PMO role, including how to manage MME (project financials) which is a crucial skill once you're a manager / senior manager.
As previously mentioned it is what you make it. You get exposure to different tracks and if you express interest you can usually help out in functional areas. As for performance achievement, my first project was a PMO role and I received distinguished achievement recognition because i excelled at the PMO role and contributed in other areas. A couple of years later, I can safely say I was not pigeon holed because of it.
PMO is part of the job, you’ll need the skill for the rest of your working life

ACN tends to pigeon hole and label, which is way you have M and SM at the firm unable to exit and essentially stuck.
Lol M and SM stuck is literally something I’ve never encountered. Always a trusty competitor in play to make an offer whenever you’re ready for a change.
Don’t be picky about your first project—in a lot of cities, the bench is really deep. You can be pickier once you have some experience under your belt

It was a great first role for me. Lots of leadership interaction and lots of learning. I wanted out initially but I wouldn’t have it any other way now.
PMO role tends to be longer than other roles in the same project, so as an analyst once, my suggestion is to avoid. For the roles that you can learn higher scope, I’d suggest the technical PMO - like in a functional team.
I dont agree with D1. Pyramid refresh should be actively practiced. My job is to make sure our folks are learning and move them around, or move them up every 6 months and backfill. I wouldn’t want that same pmo person doing the same thing for a year or more. Bad for them & bad for me
What firm are you SM2 and is this a practice that is encouraged throughout the firm?
