So, I landed a Customer Service Advisor job at Sitel in the UK. But I heard that they fire you without any prior notice or end their campaigns abruptly, leaving us with no job. Happy wife happy life is a really toxic saying. I’m just shocked how this has become the standard saying for men in relationships. I have friends of mine saying this all the time, and I have just thought it’s so cringe and always want to say my thoughts on it but always decide to hold back. However, imagine the saying reversed - happy husband happy life - that would lead to all kinds of uproar. To me happy wife happy life means I need to sacrifice my wants and needs to make my wife happy.

How did you make friends when you moved here?

An agency I freelance for wants to hire me full-time. They told me for a Sr Copywriter, 100-110k. I countered with 125-150.

I also said I'm interested in a higher-level title - I currently freelance as a Creative Director of Copy elsewhere (they don't have that title at this agency.)

They came back and said yes to the title and to 125, with a 6 month review that could raise it to 145.

Which is good for Sr Copy, but low for CD/ACD level. Don't want to screw myself over. What to say now?

Hello! I am in need of a job that makes at least $70k and is virtual in the DC area. I am adaptable, organized and a leader. I have experience in the classroom, as a manager, and as a sales and outreach coordinator. I attended both Virginia Tech and George Mason. I would love to connect and see what possibilities are out there for me.

I realized recently that I can turn my “super associate” persona at any time. I had it off during covid when my kids needed me and got a bad review. So now it’s back on. I’m responding to midnight emails (and daytime ones in under 20 minutes) and getting work done the same morning. I’m spending countless hours doing edits over edits. I actually don’t like super associate. Why do people live like this 24/7?!? 🤔

Taking an informal survey how many firms (I) have the junior and midlevel summer associates plan the bulk of the summer events (lunches but also evening events) and (ii) count time spent on the summer program as qualified billable work (in that partners see how much you bill to it on your time sheet)?

How do you get good at thinking on your feet? I find I always need time to think and analyse before being able to answer client queries (even those that are considered simple by others). I don't want to rush and get it wrong. I avoid phone calls for this reason which isn't great when you're in the service industry so it's starting to impact my career.

Explain to me like I’m 5. Why does the monthly billable hours goal on things like Intellistat change month to month. I’m not hitting hours this year. Last month goal was 158. This months goal is 180.

Anyone else just sitting around waiting for the ax to drop? I'm a soon to be 2nd year corporate associate who has seen work completely dry up. My utilization held pretty steady around 50% immediately after shutdown, but August was below 15 billables with no appreciable work in the pipeline. Recent laterals - have you been integrating well into your new teams? I lateraled into a V20 corporate group a month ago but still feel like I’m just existing at this point. I haven’t been that busy and haven’t formed any relationships with the partners or associates yet. Is this just what the ramp up period is like while remote? Would love to hear your experiences.

My entire worldview/outlook on my career and what I want has changed since covid happened. Can someone explain what being “of counsel” is like at larger law firms - are they independent contractors? Make their own hours? How do you get a gig like that? I don’t think I want to be a partner anymore.
