Stress, manifestation of compulsion disorder, who knows. Basically equivalent to biting your fingernails or grinding your teeth when anxious, but with hair.
Highly suggest therapy, specifically some sort of CBT/DBT where you can address triggers and replacement actions
Talk to your Dr about NAC supplements. That and Mg bysglycinate. Vit B1 can help. Also exercise gets the compulsive or anxious energy out and naturally gets your serotonin (or one of those mood thing) working to calm the weirds down. If I’m stressed, not expressing something, sitting too much, eating poorly that triggers it or can make it worse. I’ve also noticed coffee makes it worse. Switching to a clean coffee brand like Bulletproof helps. Less mold/toxins = healthier less jittery brain. (There’s more mold in US coffee than the EU. A nutritionist told me what we drink isn’t even legal over there. If you’re in another country…who knows but worth looking into if your a coffee lover)
