1. Yes, I'm currently interviewing with whoever will speak to me solely for interview practice.
2. I'd have to be convinced that the smaller firm has significantly better work/life balance.
nothing....I worked for both big and small....small was so annoying everything was so petty and partners were so cheap.
1. Yes - good for practice
2. I've worked in both environments. I think mid size is less stressful but sometimes the technology or resources that the big 4 have aren't available. I'm so burned from busy season I'm on a I hate all accounting at this point.
Having worked in both I prefer the big 4 environment. It's not even close in terms of the resources for technical issues. Mid size will have less hrs. Less Stress? Depends who you work for
Thanks for the responses! Follow up question- what do you say to the recruiter if they start discussing salary etc? How do you "shake them" if you're not interested
In terms of shaking them, just let them know. If you're using an external recruiter, they work for you so tell them no when you want. If it's a recruiter from the company you have two options 1) if it's before the interview, go along with it and see what comp you're viewed at, 2) if it's after the interview just politely say you're no longer interested but thanks for the time and energy.
