Wasting many hours on mundane tasks of data extrapolation and formatting in Excel and PowerPoint (due to limited junior staff and programmers). Has been happening for a while due to us being short-staffed. I don't see myself "above" these tasks per se, but it's taking nearly 50%+ of my time. The mundane tasks can't be automated simply either (I have no programming background). I don't feel like I'm being utilized well given my background/experience. Is this a dead end? Common experience?

Yes. I’m with you. I spend 50% of my time explaining how to do basic stuff that a more junior resource should be doing. Same boat as you, not necessarily against it, but I was doing those things as a staff and seems like we don’t have staff with sufficient skills.

And when you do have junior staff they’re shared with other team members and rarely have sufficient bandwidth. Increasingly common these last few years.
