We have a manager in the office who only seems to take interest in minority employees, giving them praise or attention et al. This is something we can't really discourage, and I'm not sure how to have a conversation that doesn't sound like "all lives matter"

This is a massive issue that often gets over looked. I assume this is an HR manager?

It may take a conversation with another higher level manager. Often these are perspectives and outlooks that aren’t considered without complaint.

I’m sure many here will belittle this, but the organization is separate from social politics. All lives DO matter in the workplace.

Remember there needs to be a balance. Focusing on one will cause an adverse impact to another. Acknowledge everyone effort equally and address outstanding individual who went beyond the norm. But then you also need to examine if everyone got the same opportunity. Manager should be able to identify each of their member strength and weaknesses to help the team grow. Like you give kudos to the star employee but also give props to the assistant who learn and grow as well. You’re building a team and not the individual.

My manager nominated me for judging a small programme happing virtually with two other head of the Department, but when I joined the programme someone from office outside was included for that with director and those two HODs were also not there... Have you seen women wear ties and "masculine"-looking suits to work? Was it accepted by client and team? I've never worn a tie to work, but when I've worn clothing that had a more "masculine" fit either in grad school or some work environments, I've gotten comments and looks, or sometimes asked (or people gossiped) about my orientation. I am the only immigrant with an accent in my office and it’s almost a daily thing now that my bosses/coworkers would explain terms to me that I already know. I’d often freeze when they do that because my first reaction is always confused. How do you talk about it with them after the fact especially when it seems like it’s not a big deal to them?

We all have beautiful names and we should all be addressed by those names and the pronouns that we identify with. I particularly like Erik and you can refer to me as He/Him or They/Them.

My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.
