We need to STOP glamorizing overworking. Please.

The absence of sleep, good diet, exercise, relaxation, and time with friends and family isn’t something to be applauded.

To many people wear their burnout as a badge of honor. It’s time to consider pivoting.

And it needs to change.

I just got let go after less than a year at this job and I'm actually relieved. I could not keep up with the amount of work they expected from me. My Dr. sent me to a cardiologist because my BP and heart rate were spiking...that was mere months into the job.

Last day is tomorrow and I cannot wait to catch up on all the sleep.

likehelpful

Thank you! Cardio said I was in fantastic shape and everything looked great, thank goodness, and that the elevated BP and HR was totally situational. Was a wakeup call though! Never again.

Agreed and my current manager is obsessed with being at the office. She thinks it shows her excellent work ethic but to me it’s clear she has an unhappy home life

like

Absolutely agree! I had a VP who kept saying she gated people working remotely because you absolutely must be in the office. She hated her kids and I am sure they felt the same about her. And she expected everyone to put the company first above everything. I also soon recognized that she seemed to dislike anyone on the team who had a spouse (she didn’t) and family that they loved.

Minimum viable product is the name of the game.

So true ! I’m a witness!

My employer wanted me to work 5- ten hour days and 5 hours on Saturdays when I interviewed. I’m a firm believer in work/personal life balance. I told them I couldn’t commit to Saturdays at all, not even maybe. They still hired me and I have a healthy boundary that I set up right out of the gate.

I’m the opposite. I chose not to have kids or a partner and live within a block of the office. Life is about success and putting a few extra days here and minimizing distractions to perfect your craft shouldn’t be frowned upon. I usually work 80hrs a week but sometimes feels like 20hrs. Still have lots of time to do yoga, movie nights, and doctors appointments.

Plus…I love what I do :)

Hi, what’s the premium processing cost for I-140? I have more than 2 years left on my H1 so PwC is not filing for my premium processing but said I could pay for it out of pocket. Everywhere online I see the cost of premium processing as 2500$ however PwC asked me to pay for 3500$. Could this include any additional charge? Does anybody have any insights? Thanks
