Experience that shows I can produce tangible results have been more beneficial than any degree, accreditation, or certification.
Agreed, it’s the experiences that shape us and develop us. The certifications merely help get an interview. Work on the certifications, but develop the connections to get you to where you want to be.
The only Licenses and certifications you need are the ones required for the jobs your looking for. When I am hiring someone I honestly could care less about their educational background and more to do with years of experience, work history, types of projects they worked on, their ambitions and problem solving skills. If I see a resume with a bunch of degrees and licenses and certifications but not much experience or work history I typically shred it….. There is such a thing as over educated and under experienced. And they typically don’t mix well.
You shred resumes? That's concerning. I'm certain that is not legal.
I have noticed my Masters gets me a seat at the table, but it’s the experience and real world results that seals the deal.
CFA, hands down. I get interviews because of it and asked about it during the interviews. I get taken more seriously, can talk about anything in finance and am strong with technicals because of it.
I'll second this. Just finished the CFP exam so I'll get back to this thread in a few years.
But if the experience do exit with more than 15 years of financial services experience mainly in the credit. What certification do you recommend?
Where did you obtain your Commercial Credit Analyst Certification from?
FRM for risk , PMP for project management
CPA for general everyday finance
CFA for finance specific functions
If your already in the credit risk area, or trying to be, it won't hurt you to have them. They likely won't help outside of that.
I have a few niche designations - which potentially help in the two otherwise equal candidates discussion. The most they helped was just showing my manager at the time I was serious about my career - plus the company paid for the courses and gave a little bonus when I received the designation.
I got the PMP twenty years ago, and never wanted for a job.
What’s that?
