It’s meaningless TBH,bonding is formed by working on projects, leadership creating a psychologically safe environment ,allowing the team to fail and learn from mistakes, providing growth opportunities etc..everything else is hogwash,I would rather spend my time with family than these meaningless bonding exercises outside work..my best buddies were the ones who worked shoulder to shoulder and help push the projects beyond the finish line, respect to leaders who support their team and provide good increments and support..not empty promises and Friday donuts
I agree. If the people want to hang out outside of work then they will on their own. That's how it was in my last position, we became friends and we're making our own outings and events. I think more thought, time and money need to be placed into making the workplace itself a better place to work and collaborate in, not trying to force friendships outside of work.
It’s forced social engagement with people’s personal or working time. Let them be to live their life ir do their work and do something simple but personalized, like a lunch where you order items specific to each individual - that will go a lot longer than forcing everyone to come together. You’re not a family, you’re all working as a team toward a goal. Two very different things.
It's only worthwhile if senior leadership shows up.
Get some facetime with them so they know who you are... When it comes time for layoffs and it's between you and some rando, anything helps.
