generally 1-1.5 yrs, can depend on when you join the agency (if its in line with typical promotion cycles) and how quickly you pick things up. definitely need to start having conversations with your manager early on, you won’t just “get” a promotion. have weekly 1:1s with them, set goals early and discuss your progress for meeting those goals and promotion expectations. that way there won’t be any unpleasant surprises or unmet expectations when that time of the year rolls around!
for me- i started having those conversations about 4-5 months in, after getting a feel for the role and agency. got the promotion after 1yr and i did not have to rotate brands. hope that helps!
and just to expand on the “ask for a promotion” thing. i think this is one of the biggest mistakes people make when entering this environment, if i didn’t have good guidance, i would have too. a promotion =/= time invested, there is such a thing as “garbage time”. it’s super important to discuss clear, tangible goals with your manager and ensure you are working toward them. that way even if you don’t get the promo and you disagree with the decision, it will be easy to clearly outline why you do think you deserve it and use examples as leverage
Thanks for the explanation - extremely helpful moving forward. I just started to work on my goals and weaknesses. I focus on a weakness and how I’m going to tackle it to get better.
Thank you!!!
I think this rank should only take 1 year; especially because the AAE typically loses overtime. Any longer than that they must really not be thinking of the employee’s growth imo
