If it’s about the money why does name matter?
Haha. Definitely agree when I got to my firm which was pretty big I soon realized how much name doesn’t mean shit. So yes much like you I’d soon love to exit my current industry/company
What are Alix’s pay bands?
Partner minus 1
Chief
I always see A&M/Alix popping up in the context of pay that exceeds MBB, but no one ever shares specific salary/bonus numbers
K1 - I think the context is a bit outdated. For post-MBA performance improvement hires at AP, we historically used to pay higher than MBB (~$170k base vs ~$160k base MBB - ballpark so give me some rope)
However, that has drastically changed as MBB have raised post-MBA pay and AP is no longer a “leader” in comp. If you need a comp data point, I am coming up on 3 years with AP and make $205 base, and I’ll plug in $60k bonus (no idea, we haven’t had those calls)
KPMG
I wouldn’t say >than MBB, but more so in line w MBB.
From what I’ve seen T2s have similar pay bands as MBB. They have to, as they need to attract/retain talent. S& and LEK seem to come out a bit higher than other T2s, while EYP and OW seem to come out slightly lower (based on bowl discussions).
Other good shops such as OC&C, Altman Solon, and restructuring shops like AP and A&M pay pretty well and similar to MBB. FTI also good RX shop but pays lower than T2s.
You’re right. I guess I should clarify that I just mean there’s a pay discrepancy that peaks at about 50% at the Partner level. However, we still make good money by most standards with ramped up Partners making about $1-1.5m (senior Partners can pull more like $2-3m). Ive seen a lot of MBB folks claim their Partners are in the $2-5m range after ramp-up, but of course it’s hard to verify it all.
I’ve been happy with comp levels at A&M
Alvarez & Marshall?
A&M for sure
Are A&M and AP just as difficult to join as MBB?
Agreed with Bain 1 - speaking for AP, we are not harder to get into MBB by any means, nor do we pay materially more than MBB as they’ve really gotten competitive at the lower levels with recent pay increases.
We might have larger bonus potential due to our model, but brand & future earnings at senior levels are lower than MBB.
To the heart of your question, there is no equivalent to “EBs” from banking in the consulting world. EBs are generalist with broad strengths, pay the same / better than GS/MS/JPM, AND regularly win cross offers off campus against that group.
You have boutiques with strengths in specific verticals that pay competitively with MBB, but none fit the full EB persona.
