EY Deloitte PwC people - would you leave your current employer for a 15%-25% total comp difference? This translates to a 25-45k difference per annum, largely driven by bonus at the new firm (20-40%), much smaller than my current employer. Doesn’t feel like a great exit opportunity - currently at big 4 this would be moving to a niche consulting company

Pro:
- Potentially better hours in some groups
- Pension
- You can focus / specialize early (as early as Level 2)
- Wider name recognition
- Potentially less stress at partner levels
Con:
- UTILIZATION
- Our review process template is heavily weighted on whether your manager “likes you” vs “thinks you’re good or improving” (I’ve benefitted from this but witnessed the ugly side)
- You may be pressured to specialize early (as early as Level 2)
- Name recognition may be because of audit business (see: “Big 4”)
Another B4 CON: comp
I think D1 did a great job. I’d add:
Pros:
1) Better revenue diversification vs. MBB (care more about this the higher level you are, but lowers overall firm risk)
Cons:
Compensation in all forms at all levels (won’t be starving though)
Worse exit opps (although, some groups have similar exit opps I’ve noticed)
Network not as strong (MBB alumni are, on average, more successful per capita)
Let’s be clear, “worse exit ops compared to MBB” but they’re still pretty fucking stellar
