What are your favorite time entry tips and tricks? I’m going into my second year and I feel like I suck at it. How do you write your entries to maximize your billable time—reading/drafting emails, internals calls, crying about a deadline?

I moved cities and my company is giving me 12% decrease in my salary. My current salary is within my new cities range, and I am definitely not paid market rate to begin with…also for context I have always been a high performer, have many relevant certifications, and am involved with initiatives outside my billable work

I’m not interested in accepting a decrease this large. What happens if you don’t accept it? Do you see if they come back with something more reasonable or will they fire you?

Hey all - first year associate here… I’ve met my hours requirement for this year (requirement is 1900 and am currently at around 2050 with billable hours - approx. 2160 with non billable admin hours) and I am just tired. Is it okay to just “disappear” during the holidays (thanksgiving week, week of Christmas) and let partners and senior associates know I am not available? At this point I don’t care about making more money - I just want to sleep, read a good trashy book, and cuddle with my dog.

Just got into a full time grad program for international affairs that starts in January of 2021. (completely changing careers). I need to stay working at my firm until then and possible after to get the billable hours for my CPA. I passed all 4 exams and I refuse to give let that go to waste...... how do I tell my employer I'll be going to school in a way that they'll still let me work part time? Have any of you taken "low bono" clients while working at a firm? I want to take on a low bono client or two but not sure who would get the money. This is a contract opportunity through a non profit so I'm assuming a 1099 will be issued. The per hour rate is significantly less than my billable rate. I would (obviously) like the money but my real objective is just getting experience/networking since I recently moved to a new state and don't have clients of my own.

Nervous for my annual review. Junior associate at a midsize ID firm. Most of my work is task based and I recently got a few of my own arb level cases (in the last month.) Between COVID and studying for a second bar admission as required by my firm, I did not meet my 2100 requirement for the year. Lots of non billable hours studying and business development, but firm doesn’t count it toward the minimum. Extremely burnt out and anxious. Any suggestions to make this review less awful?

Would you rather have a higher or lower hourly billable rate?

I’m pretty sure colleagues at my firm are inflating their billable hours. Is this the norm? I suspect many of you will think this is obvious and/or that I’m naive but wtf? I find hitting 2200 is tough even with a good sized work load. Am I just expected to play the game? I don’t want to sound self-righteous but if most are lying just to make the requirement, then maybe the requirement should be lower.
