Foster Fitness Center is the spot for you if you prefer your fitness facilities to have a neighborhood vibe. For serious exercise enthusiasts in SE Portland, go to their gym on Foster Street
Join a climbing gym!
My first question is what type of workouts do you like to do? What motivates you? What will you happily get out of bed early for? If you like options, I would suggest Class Pass. I went to several classes and gyms downtown with CP. I enjoyed the flexible of sampling lots of options. I built a home gym during Covid and have the needed set up at anytime now, but still have CP to get my Heineken out of the house and to socialize. The credits do not expire and I was able to use them to invite others to classes too.
I mean, it really depends a lot on the type of workouts you're interested in. I can recommend an amazing yoga studio and spin classes, but I don't know if you're into that or not. Can you share a little more about what you're looking for?

All gyms will suck for the next couple of months due to all the new resolutioners so as far as not being busy you’d have to go to more specialized gyms - powerlifting gyms, crossfit gym etc.
I go to Studio X Fitness. Visit the on-site massage therapists to recover from strenuous workouts; given the pace of some programs, you may need them.
Empower Fitness at Morrison and SW 12th. Although there is a one-year contract, the monthly fee is only $5 if you visit at least 8 times each month. It's amazing and never too crowded.
Both Crunch and Planet Fitness cost $10 per month. Being open round-the-clock is one benefit of Planet Fitness.
Check out the community centers. I frequent one in the north that has a fitness center and several classes.
I just joined 24 hr Fitness and mostly use their Hollywood location, but there is also one in the Pearl. Tons of equipment + a 25 yd lap pool sold me. Also, they're running a special, $1 initiation fee, no first or last month, and $33/mo to use all regional gyms. Compare that to $50/mo for LA Fitness + initiation.
Not downtown, but I was also a member at Lloyd Athletic Club for the last year and a half. They're running a special right now, pay in full for a year get 6 months free, which is what I did and it ended up around $25/mo. It's kind of quirky, but more than enough equipment and they're adding features all the time. Last month they turned one of their racquetball courts into a functional area with turf, 3 squat racks, kettlebells, and other equipment. Worth a look, imo. Feel free to dm if you have any questions.

Rep Movement is a nice boutique gym in town. But a little more in the expensive side
Not downtown, but NW Women’s Fitness is nice if you’re looking to avoid creeps and crowds. Lots of classes, not very busy, all ladies, very chill vibe.
