Learn scripting languages such as SQL, learn HL7, electronic file formats (5010 835/837/277) and learn about data in general: data cleaning, data quality, data warehousing, etc.
Once you can talk in the data languages, it’s just a matter of pulling the info you need for reporting, depending on the databases used. In my world, it’s a combo of these things plus looking at NCQA-standard measures to measure performance. How does the company measure up on services offered? Let’s get a closer look at the health of the member. Can we conduct some gaps in care analysis and perform outreach to bring members in that have not met compliance for a given measure? Let’s take a closer look at mental health and review the increase in those affected with suicidal thoughts since Covid to conduct outreach.
These are the kinds of things my department works on. (Quality dept)
Have you looked into health education or administration? Maybe public health analyst depending on your experience? Maybe business ops/development for a healthcare or health tech company?
