Find a mentor early on. You will likely need someone who you can rely on to make difficult ethical and personal decisions. So find a trusted mentor (either in your org or from your uni) who can guide you through the first years of your finance career

Don't. Just kidding. I'd say do your research and figure out what areas interest you. Finance is such a big field with so many options, but many people just jump right in without knowing what they're getting into, and then end up miserable. Know yourself, know the role, and THEN get the skills/apply.

helpful

Be open to different roles. I started out so stubborn and refused to do projects or skills that ultimately had a funny way of circling back around later on.

helpful

I recommend taking the SIE test or at least starting to looking at the material for it. It doesn't need a sponsor and will teach you the fundamentals of finance. Plus, employers would welcome such an initiative.

smart

Be a sponge. Everyone you come in contact with has something to offer you even the pretentious people that will get on your nerves

Question! I just moved(transferred) to another team of my company and received new title, graphic & creative services. I was a senior graphic designer at the previous team. What do you think about my new title? I know that title is not a big thing but why I feel like my title is downgraded here… Good thing is my jobs here at my current team are what I really wanted to do. This is amazing. I love my new team and people here! Super healthy working environment! But just curious about the title.

I can really use some direction. My background, I've worked 2 years in strategy and am currently coming off an exhausting year 2 in investment banking. I didn't particularly enjoy either role and am not interested in moving over to the buy-side or some monotonous FP&A role. Everybody says there's exit-ops aplenty, but I find myself with less options and even more picky than I did as an ambitious T2 undergrad student. Where do I go from here?

Outside of FAANG, what are good large CA-based tech companies that provide good pay, WLB, and culture? DD has great people and WLB, but pay is low and you’re not given the tools and resources to succeed + truly make an impact. Google and Apple are ideal but need backups. Like is Salesforce still good? A company along those lines.

Benefits to scrum or PMP certifications as a low level Associate? All the positions I see require 5+ years scrum experience. Also would appreciate people’s perspectives on scrum vs PMP in general. I’m a people person and quite good at leadership so I feel my talents are being wasted managing client direction on funds day to day.
