Gather around kids..let me tell you about the time Modernista! gave me a $32,000 bonus when I was making $40,000...and then gave away briefcases of more cash at the holiday party.
Wtf I didn’t get a bonus that big when I was there.
Ha! The one and only time I’ve received a bonus was from a client.
It was an extremely good year: clients’ product sales was great; we’re on a creative awards-winning streak; additional revenue etc. But even so, we’re still not getting any bonus/ reward from the agency.
Somehow this piece of news got to the client and...
This bunch of godsent clients 😭:
- handed out a $2k year-end bonus to everyone that works on the account (mind you... there’re approximately 30 of us.)
- and in each ‘bonus’ envelope, lies a personalised thank you note from the CMO (likely written by the PA but still!)
Now... why did I ever choose to leave this client again 🤯

Only if they reallllly think we’re all going to quit, then they give us the good ol’ $75 doordash gift card. Otherwise, zilch.
Barring C-suite, does anyone here at one of the major holding companies get a bonus? Or heard of others getting them? I assume if anything it would be VP and up...
Never at IPG or WPP. Received modest bonuses at Omnicom twice. $1-2k for the end of the year bonus, but they pay it out the following July so they don’t have to give bonuses to anyone who may leave in the beginning of the next year.
There’s a standard bonus in this industry? Could’ve fooled me...
A contract that guarantees me an expense account...
stock options,
22 weeks vacation...
a company car,
a box at Yankee Stadium...
a percentage of the gross,
total creative freedom...
transplant insurance
and a no-cut clause.
I got a 175k bonus on 125k salary. My bonus is 25% of profits of my billing.
At a political ad agency, I’m the senior editor and work on political ads 95% of the time.
Chief
0% but for a senior designer? 0.00%
I got $100 last year. That’s it.
I’ve gotten:
A $25 Visa gift card
A $5 Starbucks gift card (not kidding)
I’ve worked at three agencies and at two of them, got occasional spot bonus’s worth $500-2k. Never a holiday bonus. Just moved in house and am told I can expect 6-7%. (I’m in PR)
Lol 0%.... 6+ years at a major agency and we never got more than a gift card of like $100-$200 for the holidays. Never saw a bonus or raise in any way unless you got a promotion.
Free coffee??
Well we don’t even get that anymore since WFH
Agency = £0. Moved client side = £5000
I got a $20 gift card in 2015.
Okay I was just curious. I’ve received performance bonuses at the last 3 agencies I’ve worked at. Amount has ranged from 2-5K at agencies sized 130-400 people.
No real standard, although 5% per year feels realistic.
As for me, spot bonuses for new SOWs. Any contract over 100k usually gets you about $5k. Only one per quarter tho. Than there’s 401(k) profit sharing, which in a way is a variable bonus. No COL adjustments here.
FYI: Seattle firm, about 60 FTE.
Um what bonus lol
