I have a coworker who’s a functional alcoholic. I’ve never dealt with a situation like this before so I don’t even know if it’s my place to say something

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. She’s made 5 other associates cry during her 5 year career. Got someone fired and made another person quit. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males. I came along and thought I could deal with it but she literally makes me want to not log on tomorrow.

Answering the "conflict in your team" behavioral question: I feel naive because honestly with my teams, interpersonal dynamics have been smooth because people are generally mature and good natured. What is actual protocol with resigning from your firm? For context I’m at a firm of about 30 attorneys, and I have a comprehensive and professional email that I’m ready to send to the board. Some of those partners are in the office and some are remote, but the main one I work with is known for really losing his cool when people put their notice in. So I’m not really sure if it’s necessary or productive to tell someone in person first. Thoughts?

Have an offer to join a fairly new family office investment team in PE buyouts but will be a fairly significant cash pay cut vs what I was making in tech corp dev.
