😆 Yeah, I didn’t recognize one person. Figured we were about the same height. Nearly a 10” difference. First day in the office and they just pop by my desk and it took a few seconds into the conversation for me to figure out who was speaking.
So true lol. I went to a the office early this year to meet the team and boy there were very short people whom I think were tall on camera! Also their 10year old zoom photo looks waaaay better than than in person!!
Everyone is always SO shocked that I'm a 6" tall woman after only zoom meeting me. 🤷🏻♀️
(Similar) story of my life, lol I’m 5’10 and always am met with the initial, “no way, you’re like 6 ft, I’m 5’10 guy.
Me (to the guy who’s really 5’8 and not 5’10): 🙂I promise you I am, I’ve been measured countless times and I’m wearing flats.
Him: Wow, really? No! You sure? Nooooo and laughs walking away.
Me: Poor lil tink tink! 🙄 Glad I’m in the office,
at the most, 3 days a week! 😁
Zoom has done well for DE&I in this sense. Giving everyone an equal place (or 2inch box) at The metaphorical table
Absolutely. HR and boss never actually saw me prior to hiring. My boss not even a peek at my LinkedIn. Of course now (12 months in) it's pretty clear it wouldn't have mattered but you never know.
Remote work eliminates a lot of body bias we don’t even realize we have.
Bit of a shallow post. Who cares what height they are...can they do the job!!!
Perhaps but it’s a thing. Happens more frequently than you’d think.

Once interviewed and hired an employee remotely.
Saw him in person and ohhh boy was I wrong regarding height.
Sitting down and talking over cams really doesn’t give a sense of anything height related.
I’ve heard short men say they are taken more seriously over zoom
My direct manager ended up being 4-5 inches shorter than me (for ref I am 5”8, muscular, broad shoulders, but with a round baby face.) and her shock when she met me in person is my favorite to this day 😂 “Wow honey- you’re so much taller in person!!”
She was my first “momager” and an excellent boss, she was very kind to a young girl just starting her career! She was tinier than expected but very fierce, made me respect her more.
Same, any tips on how to look taller? 😂🙏
Just the same as five years old mug shots on Company collaboration tools. You meet the person and think wha????
This is one of my biggest fear. I'm shy female whose under 5'. My whole life I've been judged and received that-they-thought-was-funny remarks about my height. I avoided judgement since the pandemic and I'm very afraid to go back to it.
You have to own it. Be a bad a$$, I'm 5'3" with a 7 foot mentality. We trach people how to treat us - don't let people treat you like that.
Had a co-worker say he thought I was probably about 5-8”. I’m 6-6”. Not sure what to read into that… 😅😳😬
Or what about the people who never turn on their cameras so you have this idea of what they look like. Then you meet them in person…
We hashed this out early on. Everyone shared height.
When I interviewed with my boss, I thought he was a giant. Turns out he’s 5’6 with a massive head 😭
Only learned weeks in that our summer clerk was 6’6’’
This has become a get to know you question when meeting a new co worker lol
Once got a shocked “wow, I thought you would be taller. You have such tall girl energy”. I think that may be one of my favorite compliments.

Just saw your post highlighted on FB Twitter.
Guy looked fairly average height/weight on video call. Is actually a 6'7 350-400lb unit of a person.
