DEI is a dying niche. So many companies doing away with DEI
There are a ton of open DEI roles--I would say there is increasing emphasis on practitioners having strong matrixed relationship experience and understanding business. Your HR background can absolutely enable you to succeed in an internal focused DEI role. If I were you, I would also learn a little bit about DEI in the marketplace and in community impact.
That’s what I would suggest. As a reply to another comment, most companies who actually care about DEI are finding creatives ways to still do the work—there are plenty of companies out there looking for D&I Program Managers. Start there—good luck!
- Get close with your DEI team and other DEI professionals
- Get certifications or take courses in DEI
- Attend webinars/events on DEI best practices to stay up on what's going on.
