Yeah, if everyone is in the office then you do miss out on those things you mentioned, including promotion prospects. The trade off is the lack of commute—which is worth it for many/most.

If everyone else is in the office, you need to be in the office too

Yeah I’m the only person in my group who is up for promotion next year so I guess they do think of me differently
You do miss out on some of the in office stuff, and I noticed certain remote people getting cut during layoffs (perhaps because the idea is people will miss them less). But I love being remote. I don’t find it difficult to get offered work and simply get work from the remote partners who don’t have a lot of close relationships of their own
We work on national/international platforms. How do you work with people in other offices? Do that to everyone. Sick of all these dumb boomers who think you can only collaborate in person and then spend all day on the phone working with people.
Agreed. When the last baby boomer dies, it’ll be a bright day for humanity
Being in-office isn’t “healthier”, per se. Social interaction is healthy. Find time in your day/week to be around people, whether it’s recreational or working from a cafe, etc.
Make sure you create boundaries so that work doesn’t bleed over into all your time, or else your home won’t feel like home, and work will take over your entire existence. That’s one of the benefits to working in-office; there’s built in demarcation.
Which firms still offer 100% remote?
As long as you make your self valuable it doesn’t matter. Stay in contact virtually (phone, email, zoom) as best you can and try your best to do the yearly/half yearly events in person. Really work those events to get to know people face to face after building virtual relationships. Participate effectively and be on partners’ radars if you are not one yet. Your value to do the work matters more than being in person. I’ve been in a fully remote satellite office and still received raises and been promoted.
If new to the concept overall, you may need to create new routines to get yourself out of the house. Take your dog on a walk, do dinners with friends or family. Try to keep a daily self care routine. If you are in a position that you are doing virtual court appearances, depositions, mediations, client meetings, etc. these should keep you vigilant for self care visually. You still need to make sure you move your body from your desk and focus on your general health.
I love it and while I could do in office, remote works best for me right now.

I like it but I have someone to live with, hang out with, go out with, etc. I would consider maybe living with a roommate if that makes sense where you are or otherwise doing something to make sure you’re actually leaving the house on a regular basis

Got it, I guess I’m not sure what you mean by rotting at home! I meant more going out to see friends, do stuff, basically make it you have some variety
