I have applied to several positions up Google. I have not heard anything back at all. No matter if I customize my résumé to the job description I still don’t hear anything back. I am wondering as to why Google ghost people instead of just telling them that they didn’t get the job? Interview as if you don't need this job and have nothing to lose
Disagree. The worst interviews I have —in general— are people who are desperate to get the job. It’s obvious they’ll say whatever I want to hear.
Yes, you can talk yourself out of a job by being too honest, but likely you talked your way out of a job you would have hated or they would have hated you.
The best candidates IMO are authentic.
Record EVERY interview. Encountered a few discriminatory statements that would’ve made me rich had I recorded it.

I’ve recorded client calls instead of taking notes on their feedback. One of them was inadvertently caught being verbally abusive to the agency and I later played it to our CCO to prove it. It was super helpful.
Most production companies record Director briefings with the Creative Teams in order to help with writing the Director Treatments. I know this because I’ve been told by the freelance writers who ghost write many of those treatments.
Be a human. It’s a people business and being ‘professional’ is fine but not overly helpful. You want to connect as people, be interested in the conversation. As a strategist at least, you just want to find ideas interesting and debate them.

Be interested in what they do, don’t hide who you are.
1. Be yourself. Yes it’s cliché but it got this way because it’s such a simple truth. Never discount the importance of cultural fit on both sides for long-term job satisfaction.
2. Ask a lot of questions. And not just the ones you prepare ahead of time. Show the interviewer you were engaged and listening critically enough to pry deeper into things that came up during the interview.
3. Send a “thank you” letter.
Very basic stuff but you’d be surprised how many people don’t know the basics. So you’ll be ahead of others already if you do these simple things.
