PwC 🐠, I interviewed with the firm about 6 months ago for a Senior Associate position on the forensics team. I wasn’t extended an offer because the position was given to an internal transfer, at least what I was told. I tried reaching out to the recruiter I worked with last time but the email bounced back and wouldn’t be delivered. I was hoping to see / reapply if the group still was looking for seniors.
In your opinion, would it be best to reapply as a cold application?

Yes. Always ask their range first.

Ask their range first but do your research. Be prepared with a [slightly] aggressive number.
If you’re too low - you leave $$ on the table.
If you’re too high - you’ll come across as too expensive and won’t get consideration [if the range is $100 and your initial is $160, it’s end of story. but if your initial is $120 or $125, they’ll tell you you’re slightly high and work with you to land at $110/$115]
Sometimes we have a range and sometimes we need a candidate to push us to get the range to them- if I’m interviewing someone and I know their range is going to be over mine but I want to fight internally to get that funding I’ll need them to tell me, I also don’t want to offend them.
Last year I hired someone that was double what was scoped funding wise, but I needed them and their experience. If I had told them my range up front they would have stopped talking to me, but they said they were looking for $$ and I got them that amount.
Do your research and give a range that you both want and is reasonable. Don’t lowball yourself.
Give a number, not a range. And don’t ask them their range unless you want them to set the goalposts for the negotiation (which you shouldn’t).
