What's your best advice for better relating to your clients on a human level? I find it difficult to connect with them outside the scope of the case and I'm afraid it makes me seem cold.

Looking for some advice here: I work for a client that loves me & I love him back as well. Get along super well with the creative team and we’re like “one team” . However, I am having problems with the management of my agency. I thought of maybe talking with my client about it (the CMO) to see if he pressures the account MDs. There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.

Resigned last week from a job with a horrible manager. In the process learned that the other team member is toxic and poisoning my reputation in front of others behind my back. I am so relieved!

Let’s talk about wrongful termination. The other day I was fired in the middle of the day without any warning. My colleagues called me because they were confused on why the Talent Manager dismissed me from the chat. I didn’t know what they were referring to. So I called my PM to ask what was happening, and she said that she just got off the phone with the TM and said they were terminating my contract on the spot due to me speaking up about micromanaging. No explanation just kicked out. Advice?

Giving notice tomorrow. Accepted another offer. Nervous to tell my boss because I know I’ll be leaving them screwed but I’m miserable. Love my team. The client is stupid and the work is soul crushingly uncreative. But still feel guilty :(

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating). Someone told me today that they just assume I’m not interested because I always seem to “run” but I’m not sure how to bring up problems/feelings otherwise. How do you approach these hard questions?

I’ve done PI work my entire career for over 10 years. I’ve worked in state and federal courts and I’ve traveled around the country doing MDL work and bellwether trials. The offer from the large firm is for a pre-suit position, base salary of $100K - is this salary pretty standard for this kind of position?

I'm a 6th year attorney in NYC. Strictly defense work; started out with the City Law Dept, did a year and a half of med mal/construction, and for past year and a half have been at a well known defense firm working on high exposure construction accident cases. Contemplating taking a couple interviews at plaintiff's firms to see if there is a good fit. Does anyone have any advice on how approach discussions about compensation and what a market level comp package would or should look like?

I currently work at a small PI firm in Atlanta were EVERYTHING is settled presuit. If we’re unable to settle, then it’s referred to another firm for litigation. This whole process seems very atypical to me and the attorneys rarely touch a file until the first liability offer is received. The paralegals handle everything from intake to drafting the demands. The attorney briefly skims (does NOT read) the demand packages and signs. Is this ethical?? Anyone else work at a firm that is run this way??

I’m currently discontent with my income.
(3rd year. Salary=80k and no performance incentive. I brought in $1.4mm AFTER partners claimed over half of fees on my big cases.)
I see CJL offers an incentive+ base but I’m curious about that structure.
Any good or bad firm culture to speak of?
Is it impossible to actually earn a respectable incentive bonus?
Am I going to have some partner come cut me out of any cases where I might actually make a solid fee?

4th year at a mid size PI firm. Got pulled from litigating MVAs to help this solo we hired start a med Mal/nursing home practice. 1 year in and it looks like I’m two steps backwards in terms of getting paid because we’re a year or more out from a lot of the fees hitting. I respect the solo a lot, he’s a mentor, but I’ve got kids and I gotta get paid. Trying not to burn bridges, but I can’t wait years to get cut in. Advice?

I know this is a broad question but how much should a 3 year PI attorney going into their 4th year make approx. I’m in Chicago, a range is fine too.

What's your preference for plaintiff's side? Steady pay at approximately $120k with no bonuses, or a base salary of $70k plus a cut of what you close over a minimum threashold? Midwest-ish market. In both situations, you get a cut of what you bring in.

I’m a 3L applying in NYC for post grad employment. Which plaintiffs PI/Med firms have the best opportunities for a junior? Everything I find, including my past summer job, is a small shop with 3 partners max and a handful of established associates. I would really like plaintiffs side.

What % of settlements do you take home as an associate? Trying to gauge what I should be seeking in my next contract. Currently at 3% split prorated with all handling attys. Is this normal?
