How do you handle fake & phony co-workers? I’m so tempted to call them out...but it never ends well!

Call out if it’s related to the quality of work. Ignore everything else. They have bigger issues that you don’t want to get involved with.

likesmartuplifting

Thanks for the example. It could be that “nobody likes a failure “. So just be quiet and move on. It could be a cultural thing.

Do they do their work?

like

Just enough to look like they get their work done. Mostly fake and phony to management regarding new tools...that are worthless but so they look good, these peeps say tools are good (but when you ask about their use privately they fess up that they don’t really use the tool, haven’t taken the training, etc)

Do they get the client to believe the solution works?

like

Nope not working with client. Our project solution actually does work.

Anyone feel as if it’s hard to stay with a company when you’re the only one of color? (&young) I’ve work for 3 companies in past 5 years and have yet to make meaningful colleague relationships. I just do not relate to the conversation and just find it hard to picture myself being a long-term employee. I’ve had better relationships when working at wal-mart when I was in college. I feel it takes away some of the joy of having to go to work.

Boss: I need you to stop challenging me on every decision.

Me: I don’t want us to have a confrontational relationship and I think we can agree something needs to change. When you make stupid decisions, that affects my business and it makes me feel like you’re not up to the job. That makes it harder for my team to do our jobs. I think to be an authentic leader I need to be radically candid with you and point our your mistakes. So are you willing to work with me on this?

DE&I is now a core leadership competency. If you are managing diverse talent, it’s important to understand what the term “privilege” means within a DE&I context so you can lead your team to higher levels of inclusivity+develop optimal strategies for solutioning around team issues/challenges. Everyone has some aspect of privilege depending upon the context. Privilege means the absence of obstacles/barriers, not necessarily the presence of perks. Though some would say *that* itself is a perk.

Any advice on how to tastefully tell your manager that you no longer want to be a charge nurse anymore? For us being in charge is having full assignment 3p-7p & being responsible for assigning pts , communicating w/ supervisor about various issues, making the assignment for next shift, and a mini report about each pt for the next charge. On the weekends, same responsibilities but 7a-7p. We don't get any additional pay for being in charge and I'm sick of the added responsibility and stress of it.
