It can be frustrating when changes in work schedules conflict with important personal appointments or commitments. In this situation, it may be helpful to have an open and honest conversation with your employer or supervisor to explain the importance of your half day and the regular doctor's appointments you have scheduled.
You can discuss the impact that changing your half day would have on your ability to attend these appointments, as well as any potential consequences for your health and well-being. It may be helpful to provide documentation from your healthcare provider to support your request for accommodations.
If you have a human resources department or a designated point of contact for workplace accommodations, you can also reach out to them for assistance and support in navigating this situation.
Ultimately, it is important to prioritize your health and well-being, and to advocate for yourself and your needs in the workplace. If your employer is unwilling to make accommodations or work with you to find a solution, you may want to consider seeking legal advice or exploring other employment options.
We don't have an hr it's just the owner and us 3 employees. I've shown him documentation multiple times and his exact words were her health is more important. I've been looking for other employment but there's not much In my area unless I want to drive an hour to one of the major cities.
I would speak with your employer about the situation you're in. You might let them know that if they can't accommodate your health needs you'll have to look for work elsewhere. If they value you then they will work to accommodate your needs.
I completely understand the need for flexibility at work, however when it comes to medical appointments I think it's important to prioritize those. I once had to miss an appointment due to a change in my work schedule, and it was incredibly frustrating. I think it would be beneficial to discuss ways that the half day can stay the same while accommodating the other tech, such as altering the days they work or having them come in later. That way, everyone can be accommodated.
I've tried talking to them, tried compromising, but because of a couple of medications I take I have to have regular blood work done and if I miss these appointments I lose my medicine. It's not like it's an allergy pill or something these are essential medications I need to be able to live a somewhat normal life I was told once again today that 'whatever days she wants off those are the days she's taking off so I'm out of luck".
Why is the other employee prioritized over you if this is something that has already been in place since the beginning of your employment. I don't get it
Update me and the vet assistant both ended up quitting over then same thing. I'm not real sure why he values the other tech so much but I've got some suspicions plus the clinic has lost a ton of clients due to the techs attitude.
This sounds a little bit like discrimination honestly- I would keep as many of the conversations documented and try to get your doctor to write you some ADA paperwork for your employer so if the unfortunate event happens that you are let go due to this issue, I hate to say it, but you have a good case for clear discrimination from what I’ve heard. I know this was months ago and I hope everything worked out for the best!!
