What sets apart those who’ve been most successful in this role?
Feedback and review process. Ask the associates for tips/qualities that help you succeed in the group
Mentorship, benefits, pay scale, opportunities to grow, networking ability
Ask the associates at your peer level what their actual working hours are like and what the Partners are like. No one is going to outright say that their firm is a sweatshop or the partners are horrendous, so look out for language like: “X partner is demanding but generally fair” or “So and so can be pretty tough but smart” etc. If they actually like the work and the people it should come across clearly and without reservation. Anything else should be a red flag.
