A. Because it’s the greatest city in the world and it’s not even close.
NY way better than London, I mean I'm a big fan of NY but you've got to be joking. London is a whole new level. Food is better in NY though 🙂
San Diego hands down. Best vibes, best weather, best views, best activities and best people. Lowest COL of the 3. I've had 6 friends move there from around around country and all of them are now the happiest I've ever seen them. I've lived in both of the other two and can't think of worse places to have to pay so much to live in.
I live in bed stuy. But to answer Huron - 5k is quite a lot for brooklyn. You can find 2 bedrooms for way less in almost every neighborhood in Brooklyn and queens and the Bronx. Excluding the really expensive neighborhoods like Williamsburg, Brooklyn heights, Fort Greene, park slope etc. My friend lives in a new building 1 bedroom in Manhattan and pays 5k. Not saying you can't pay that much in one of the new Brooklyn buildings but almost all the neighborhoods are cheaper than that.
OP I'm ready for that sunshine. I'm in my 30s so I care less about nightlife and more about space, sun and nature.
As someone who has lived in all 3 I can this. These are all awesome cities and personally my 3 top cities in the US. That being said this is really dependent on where you are in your life.
For example, if you’re in your 20s NYC is hands down the best city in the US there’s no contest when it comes to nightlife, restaurants, etc.. In my 20s I never wanted to be home so having a small apt didnt bother me. As you get older tho the high cost of living with minimal space gets less attractive.
LA is great for later 20s and early 30s. It’s kind of a middle balance between the 3. More living space and lower COL than nyc, second best city in US for things to do (nightlife, arts, etc.). However, traffic can be brutal and still a HCOL overall
San Diego is pretty awesome for settling down with a family, with its perfect weather and more reasonable COL. It’s not as attractive for younger people though for things like going out (not saying it’s not a good city for your 20s/30s) just that it’s not as good compared to nyc and la.
This doesn’t even cover all the other factors to consider like life goals, career/industry prospects, accessibility, etc.. For example, if you’re wanting a career in big finance you’re better off being in nyc.
I have also lived in all three cities. Moved to SD 2 years ago and miss LA. Agree with the original thread poster here. SD opps are limited if you are looking to transition to industry. What I think SD lacks is diversity and culture compared to NYC/LA. If you are settled down with a fam and kids SD would be a great place. One other thing is that SD is more humid than you would think.

C. I’m already living in it.
S1: Thanks for the insights. Not that I am a religious/practising Muslim so it’s less about lifestyle and more about general acceptance.
Staying put in LA for the time being, but will definitely add Oceanside to the list for weekend getaways.

NY has got to be the fakest city I've ever been to.
GD1, I’m from the south but lived in NYC for 4 years… you’re absolutely right. The south is super fake. There are even certain insults that sounds really sweet but are meant to cut. You know where you stand with New Yorkers.
NYC, San Diego and then LA. If I want SoCal, I would live in SD, if big city culture then NYC. LA just sucks to me. I would put SF, Seattle and Denver over the SoCal cities too.
No one or their moms want to live in SF wtf
Currently in San Diego, love the city. Only challenge is not many technology companies and the opportunities are sparse
I am a technical program manager, not aligned to a particular industry. Goal is to join a technology company.
Nyc, definitely nothing compares to the culture, accessibility in this city
San Diego. Unpopular opinion but only those living in NYC think it’s the greatest city 😂
DC blows dude. (Coming from a current resident of the DMV)
Pro
San Diego. I live here and it matches so well with our lifestyle. Beach, weather, good food, golf, everyone here is chill and nice. I came from Chicago so taxes aren’t even that much worse 😂
Pro
How are the people compared to Chi? I live in Chicago now and am looking for a place with good vibes
Crime is out of control in NYC (incl. Hatchet Attacks). San Diego is your best bet.
Crime is down from the past few weeks but it was at highs just before. Murders and shootings are still up in high percentages compared to 2019

I’m with team San Diego on this one.
Why isn’t Miami a contender? Has great weather year round, beautiful beaches, low COL, great nightlife, and no state income tax!
@C7 compared to NYC the COL is significantly yes. And yes, I go there every month.
C
New York is fun. Been here for 5 years but San deigo is super chill

D. None of the above
Which city interests you?
NYC to make a career, San Diego to ride that career out.
Lived in SD and loved it, but couldn't for the life of me advance because opportunities were scarce in middle management.
Move to NYC, working to exit to Sr Dir/ AVP role and move back to San Diego.
F*** LA, it sucks
Chief
Probably San Diego, though all three are pretty far down on my list of destinations.
I lived in NYC for 2 years and hated it. Spent about 6 months in LA and wasn't a fan, so by process of elimination San Diego it is.
As an aside, of all the cities I've lived in, NYC is at the bottom of the list, and that's with Cleveland on the list.

Yeah MD1 sounds like it’s not the cities that are the problem, it’s you
LA is the closest to hell on earth
Tell us more.

Between those 3? Easy-
1. NYC
2. SD
3…..not LA
LA has a better food scene than San Diego but San Diego has just better family environment than LA.
Word! I like San Diego sea food scene but LA has the weather and better food!
