Ok be honest, candidates. I really love this set of questions, I’ve been considering shifting my current interview style to these questions - I think they really give you an idea of who this person would be within the work setting. But the questions almost feel too deep for a recruiter to ask. What would you think if a recruiter took a different path and asked these questions instead of the usual ones?

Is HARMAN really recruiting for permanent remote roles? Would they ask us to come to office after sometime? I am a bachelor woman supporting my sickly parents and can't move them out of city. And my city don't have harman office. HR did mention permanent remote, still want to confirm as I've heard many cases people were called back across different product based companies. I work in an internal strategy group at Deloitte in the part of our business we refer to as “enabling areas”. We “borrow” people all the time from Deloitte’s Consulting practice (e.g., on short or longer term rotations paying an internal hourly rate to Consulting) to support our internal strategy projects, and I know other internal teams do this too. Do the internal teams do this at PwC? Hubby is on the bench at Strategy& and I keep telling him to look into this as an option…

It depends. I am on a project with a tight turnaround time due to reasons and was off last week. The guy leading the project quit 2 weeks prior so I had to take the lead. Not ideal, but I was plugged in if anything was needed. Thankfully, my boss understands time off means laptop off.
The only thing I’m doing on vacation is vacationing. I’d only be plugged in if it was my own company/business. Otherwise, not my problem. 😊
Some may want to be as much help to their team as they can, especially if it’s a low effort ask. Others might feel pressure from higher up to deliver. And there’s many more who don’t fall into this overgeneralization at all.
I think that’s I’m an incredibly cynical view for someone that might be saying, I’m taking a break but still committed.
Another way to look at is.. I need a break so respect my time but if you need me, I’m here for the team because our success is what allows me to take this time.
TA1 I don't know if you have a family but if you do, this means that your work is more important than they are?
I don't get that. You can be thanked (and replaced) by your company at any time. What about your family?
I personally don't have a family but still, I respect myself too much to think that my job is more important than my personal life.
There are many departments that are covered by a single individual, unfortunately! That adds more pressure and guilt when on vacation!
Even though the time is fully deserved, the higher ups expect some check ins during the vacation time!
We always want to be helpful even when we truly need to relax. It’s okay to not be available for when you require downtime.
Nobody should do it. Time off is 100% time away from work.

And I’m a control freak. I feel like things need to happen in a certain way to make sure my patients get the right care…
Well, I'm not a manager, but maybe you can tell us why YOU are doing it?
Actually none of my managers, at least in Europe, never ever brought their work with them on holiday.
It’s also for piece of mind if you have people under you. I understand why people feel the need to be connected, but I also try to stay as unconnected as possible. I respond only to emails from my boss, but she’s pretty good about giving me my time off.
As far as people reaching out to me, I put an away message to go to either my peers, or my direct reports. I feel I’ve given them the tools needed to answer and help with questions that may come to me, and if not, then I should train them further to be able to answer those questions.
I don’t want anyone touching my stuff- if I just unplugged there would be people in there messing everything up and my job is about being highly organized, but also because I have anxiety about missing anything and if I didn’t check in a few times a day I wouldn’t be able to have fun when I wasn’t plugged in because I would imagine the worst happening.
Amén! I don't get it at all! Time off is exactly that TIME OFF.
Sometimes this allows us to vacation while an urgent project is in process. We can utilize that technology to stay in touch with the project and still take a trip with the family. It also helps us somewhat limit the backlog we are inevitably going to return to.
