2022 was a hiring frenzy
2023 was layoffs
It’s all cyclical. So hopefully 2024 at the least is the middle ground. Maybe better.
Sounds like they were trying to find a mid/senior to only pay them a junior salary
Companies recently merged or consolidated units - probably yes
Companies who lost big account end of 2023 - probably yes
Companies with stable accounts, solid mgt, smart growth plans, profitable -probably no
Follow big new business wins or shifts - that’s most obvious places you’ll see quick hire ups.

Think and hope we’re on our way to having a better year. Summer was dead then Sept on it’s been slowly getting better.
Still might be a slow pace after Jan new hires peak until mid year. But considering many of us (me included) just relived the 2020 market, I’ll take slow over wtf it’s been.
2024 will be…
More Freelance work (Less FT roles), More Projects (Less AOR), More Indies popping up, More AI.
Get networking and be ready to jump into FL would be my tip.
